
Dr. Joël Claveau

Dr Joël Claveau is a dermatologist specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of melanoma and other types of skin cancer. He is clinical assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at Université Laval, where he completed his medical studies and residency in internal medicine. He completed his dermatology residency at McGill University and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology. He has received various awards, including the ‘President's Cup’, the ‘Volunteer Dermatologist- ’ award and the Symposium of the Year (Dermoscopy) on two occasions from the Canadian Dermatology Association. He was awarded the title of ‘Honorary Member’ of the Société Française de Dermatologie in 2018.
Since 1996, he has been co-director of the Melanoma and Skin Cancer Clinic at the CHU de Québec and has worked in public health for the province of Quebec on the draft law on artificial tanning. He has contributed to several scientific publications on melanoma, skin cancers, atopic dermatitis and sunscreens. He is involved in a number of medical education activities locally and internationally. He is principal investigator of clinical trials on adjuvant and metastatic melanoma treatments.
